The short version
Dinnr helps a group decide where to eat. We collect as little as possible:
your approximate location is used once to find nearby
restaurants and is never shared with the group. There are no
accounts, and your individual votes are anonymous.
What we collect
- Approximate location (only if you tap “Use my location”).
Used once to search for restaurants near you. We do not store your location
after the search, and we never reveal it to other people in your session.
- Session codes & activity. The 4-character code, the
restaurant deck for that session, and yes/no votes — used to run the live
session. Votes are anonymous and are not attributed to a named person.
- No accounts. We do not ask for your name, email, phone
number, or password. A random device identifier is stored on your device to
keep your session consistent across reconnects.
What we do NOT collect
- No precise location tracking or background location.
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or advertising identifiers.
- No selling of personal data. We don't run ads.
Service providers
- Foursquare — provides the restaurant data. Your search
area (a city or approximate coordinates) is sent to find nearby places.
- Supabase — powers the real-time session and stores the
session's restaurant deck temporarily so people can join.
- Unsplash & Pexels — provide stock food photos when a
restaurant has no photo of its own. Photos load directly from their image
servers, so opening the app shares your device's IP address with them, as it
would when loading any image on the web. We send them no personal data.
Data retention
Session data is short-lived and tied to a session code. We delete stale
session records on a rolling basis (typically within 24 hours).
Children
Dinnr is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect
their personal information.
Your choices
You can decline the location permission and enter a city manually instead.
You can leave a session at any time.
